Create Item from Map Layer

This procedure guides you through the process of creating items from an ESRI map layer. The newly-created item can contain map attribute data in its fields.

ESRI Map Layer

Irth recommends using ESRI Feature layers for best results. See Map Layers > Type of Layer

If you do not have an ESRI Feature map layer, create one. See Map Layers

A map layer can be linked from more than one form

Create Form Linked to Map Layer and Link Form Field to an ESRI Map Layer Attribute

  1. Use the App Designer to create a form. See Create Form
  2. On the form's Links tab:
    1. Click + Add Form to link to an ESRI map layer (preferably, an ESRI Feature layer. See Map Layers > Type of Layer). See Links > Link Forms or Map Layers
    2. In the map layer:
      1. Under the form name, choose the form field to receive data. For details, see Links > Link Form Fields or Map Layer Attributes
      2. Under the map layer, choose the attribute that sends the data. For details, see Links > Link Form Fields or Map Layer Attributes
  3. Save and publish the form

Having created a form linked to a map layer (and with a form field automatically receiving data from a map layer attribute), you can now create an item from the form from any ticket or item that has the map layer.

Create Item from Ticket or Item Map Layer

You cannot create a form from the map layer unless the layer has something marked on it (pins (items) associated with the layer). An empty layer does not have the Information window, which is where the Create [form name] button appears.

  1. From a ticket or item Detail page, in the map:
    1. Use the Layer Picker to turn on the map layer linked to the form
    2. Use the cursor and Zoom ( + / -) to locate whatever is in the map layer
    3. Use Information ( ) to click on a pin or point marked on the map layer. See Ticket Details > Map Tools > Map Layer Information or Item Details > Map Tools > Map Layer Information
    4. On the Information window > Layer Info tab, click Create [form name] to create a new item from the form that has the Map Layer info in it. Result: The new item appears with a field containing the information from the map layer attribute
